Get Started with Muscle Puck

Your Muscle Puck senses the electrical activity of your muscles and tracks movement. Use Posture to build better posture habits throughout your day, or Power to see how your muscles work during exercise.

Set up your Muscle Puck

Shared by both apps - download the app, attach the electrode, then choose Posture or Power below.

01
Download the Longevity Quantified app

Download the app and sign in or create your account. When you open the app, it will search for nearby Muscle Pucks. Follow the prompts to connect your Puck. Your battery level is shown in the app.

02
The Puck

The reusable electronic module houses the core technology and features three muscle-sensor (EMG) electrode snaps that connect to the electrode patch.

03
The Electrode Patch

A hypoallergenic adhesive patch with three distinct conductive gel zones. It positions the electrodes correctly and keeps them from touching, so every reading stays clean and reliable.

04
Snap on the Puck

Keep the plastic liner on for now. Align the Puck with the three snaps on the patch and press to snap it securely - a stable mechanical and electrical connection for accurate EMG reading.

Tip: Always snap the Puck onto the patch before peeling off the liner. It's much easier to handle before the adhesive is exposed.
05
Peel the liner

Remove the backing liner from the electrode patch.

Place it on your body

Position the patch so the conductive zones sit flush against your skin, over any muscle you want to track. Apply gentle pressure for full skin contact.

Place it on your body

For the best signal:

  • Start with clean skin without lotion or oil.
  • Make sure the hydrogel electrodes are making contact with your skin.
  • Align the two upper sensing electrodes along the direction of the muscle, not across it.
  • Body hair is generally fine as long as the electrodes make good skin contact.

Placement matters

Muscle Puck measures the electrical signal traveling through the muscle. The two upper sensing electrodes should run along the direction of the muscle fibers.

Correct vs incorrect Muscle Puck orientation on the bicep

✕ Incorrect - sensing electrodes turned across the muscle

✓ Correct - sensing electrodes aligned along the muscle

What do you want to do?

Posture

Wear your Muscle Puck on your upper back throughout the day. It monitors both your back angle and your muscle activity and gives you a gentle vibration when you've been in poor posture for too long.

Power

Place your Muscle Puck on the muscle you want to measure during exercise. Power combines muscle activity, movement and camera-based pose tracking so you can see how your muscles work while you move.

Care

Reuse your adhesive electrodes

Your hydrogel electrodes can typically be reused 5-10 times, depending on skin contact and cleanliness.

After use:

  1. Gently remove the electrode from your skin.
  2. Place it back onto its original plastic liner.
  3. Touch the hydrogel with one small drop of water to help maintain moisture and conductivity.
  4. Return it to its Ziploc bag until your next session.

Replace the electrode when it becomes dirty, loses adhesion or no longer makes reliable contact with your skin.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Muscle Puck is designed to measure surface muscles. Place it over the muscle you want to monitor, with the sensing electrodes aligned along the direction of the muscle. For examples, see our Muscle Placement Guide.
Troubleshooting

Not getting a good muscle signal?

Try these first:

Check placement

Make sure the Puck is positioned over the muscle rather than a bone or joint.

Check orientation

The two sensing electrodes should run along the direction of the muscle.

Check skin contact

All electrodes need good contact with your skin.

Check the hydrogel

If you're reusing an electrode, make sure it still adheres well and hasn't become excessively dirty or dry.

Try a clear contraction

Contract the target muscle deliberately and see whether Power detects the activation. A slow bicep curl is an easy way to test your setup.
